I roused from sleep when I heard footfalls on our roof. It was around 3 a.m. and that kind of noise at that hour was alarming. I hurriedly stood up and glanced out the window but only observed the night sky.
Tiptoeing to my daughter's room, I caught sight of a man peering at her through the window while she was sleeping. I darted back to my room and grabbed one of the personal defense devices I kept in a drawer, a Mace spray.
I walked against the wall so the man would not see me coming. When I was finally standing beside the window, I swung it open in one quick move and then aimed the Mace spray straight onto his face. The man fell all the way down to the ground, two stories below. From the main door, I saw him struggling to get up and run away.
I ran out of the house after I watched him drop down from the 2nd floor window. I had my Mace spray with me prepared to attack him again but he already rode on a motorcycle and made a break for it.
Fortunately, I copied down his plate number and even identified him. I first saw him observing my daughter when I got her after school maybe a week ago. He was staring at her from afar in a non-welcoming way.
He showed no reaction, drawing a cell phone from his pocket instead as though he just happened to be standing there. As we got in the car, I stole one last glance and caught him eyeing my daughter again.
After that, I realized that I had to have Mace spray in my immediate vicinity at all times. I even have one in our vehicle mixed in with the other personal defense devices I need when I drive.
I called the police after the escapade and retold what had happened. I also provided them with the plate number of his getaway vehicle. I am so glad that one of my personal defense devices came in handy and protected my girl from an assault.
